What Nora does

  • You talk with Nora by text or voice: free talk, roleplays and live voice calls you can interrupt.
  • Lesson journeys teach a few phrases, let you rehearse them, then have you use them on a character in a city scene.
  • Story journeys are branching stories with voiced characters; what you say moves the plot and your choices change the ending.
  • Nora speaks English and your language in one reply, mid-sentence, with the right accent in each; you set the mix from mostly English to target language only.
  • Nora remembers you: your level, goals, interests and your mistakes with your own sentences, visible and editable in settings.
  • Saved words become flashcards, mistakes you repeat join a mistake deck a few a day, spaced repetition is built in, and saying a due word in conversation counts as a review.
  • Tap any word in a conversation for a dictionary entry (Japanese, Korean and Chinese) or a translation (the other five languages).
  • Japanese gets furigana and romaji, Chinese gets pinyin, and Japanese and Korean have formality settings.
  • You can set the level from new to the language, the language mix, the correction style, the talking speed, the response patience and the voice, or ask Nora mid-conversation.
  • You can create your own conversation partners with their own personality.
